Common Mistakes on Wall Paper Essay

1. Do not leave quotes standing alone

Ex. The narrator can’t come out of the room and no one listens to her and she feels that the “rest cure” treatment is not really what she needs.  “A slight hysterical tendency—what is one to do?” (Gilman 657)

Fix:

2. Do not use “I, you, we, us, me” in a formal essay

Ex. While writing, you are able to express present thoughts and feelings on to paper.  You are able to expand thought process, think of new ideas and critique yourself when you write.

Fix:
3. Do not state “I think” or “ I believe” or “As you can see…” in a formal essay.  I know it is what you think or what you believe because you are writing it.

Ex: As I’ve mentioned beforehand, the short story” The Yellow Wallpaper” is a story full of themes, meanings, and representations of the life of woman in a male dominated society.

We are going to be reading a short graphic novel about a girl who grows up under a dictatorship type of government. I am asking you to research dictatorships for homework tonight. Please answer the following questions on binder paper with the title Dictatorship Information and have it ready to turn in tomorrow for points.

1. Define Dictatorship
2. Research three famous dictators throughout history. Write the names of each, what country they were ruling and a one sentence description of why they were famous. 
3. What is a dictator in your own words? 
4. How does one become a dictator? 
5. List five of the Pros and five of the Cons of what it would be like to live under a dictatorship rule.
