3/22/16 Tuesday Agenda

What is due tomorrow that must be typed and is worth 100 points??????

Correct......The Inferno Essay ! Please have it printed and ready to hand in to me at the beginning of the period.

MLA Guide to Works Cited Page and Quoting from Various Texts

When using a quote from The Inferno please cite your source by using the last name and the line number only.

For example:
" I went astray from the straight road and woke to find myself alone in a dark wood"(Alighieri 1-2).

I have several students using on line versions or different translations of the text so page numbers won't help me.

When quoting from one of the articles please cite your source by using the author's last name and page number.

For example:
"Dante uses the idea of loss..."(Heilbronn-Gains 14).

This is what your Works Cited Page should look like:
Works Cited

Alighieri, Dante. The Inferno.  First Signet Classics Printing
      (Cifelli Afterword), October 2009

University Press: (Bloomington and Indianapolis, 1995) 367-
      380.

You may copy and paste the sources that you used in your essay to create your own Works Cited page that should be a separate page stapled to your essay.  Only include sources that YOU used in your essay.  All sources should be placed in alphabetic order according to author.  Please see the MLA site from above if you have other sources that you need to include that I did not list here.

Essay time in class Day # 3
(Last "in class" Day to work on your Dante Essay)

Please use your class time wisely.  Today you should be outlining your essay and finding quotes (from The Inferno, Article 1, Article 2 and Article 3, or the websites that we have been using in class) to support your thesis.  You may brainstorm, share ideas, exchange quotes, discuss cantos, edit and proofread your classmate's essays and your own and basically "work" on your essay today in class so that you don't have to spend so much time on it at home.
